Have to admit never gave never gave much thought to a washing machine and dryer before but we immediatly noticed a difference and now love it.

My wife and I didn't do a whole lot of research before making a choice. I just went to home depot because they offered a year no payments no intrest. I kinda had it in the back of mind for the past year or so that if we did replace our washer and dryer it would be with the red models. I think that is wirlpool but when we seen the floor models they were impressive but on closer look, the front panal was jammed packed with buttons to features I knew we had no use for and we were really going to end up paying an extra six hundred bucks for the color so we balked on that idea.

I think LG has 3 similar models we picked this one middle of the 3. It seemed to be about the right size. The button layout was useful and simple a little more than we wanted to spend, fourteen hundred for the set but we'll recoup most if not all of the cost in energy and water savings over time.

-Runs very quiet. Uses what they call direct drive. I believe the drum operates off of magnets not belts.
-Weighs the amount of clothing to be washed and determines how much water to use.
We were told our old machine uses 40gallons per load. This uses between 9 and 17 gallons depending on load size.
-We liked that the front panal had hi-tech display and lights, but not difficult to use or figure out.

only problem is if you have small childern I knew this would be an issue and it was on the first day. our two year old daughter thought it was fun to play inside the dryer drum, have to admit it was cute. So well just have to watch for that in the future. five stars

Great Product

First off, I have been a front-load washer owner for over 7 years. We owned the Maytag Neptune, which finally gave out via the drum bearing. I researched a variety of front load washers under $700. From Amana, Whirlpool, Kenmore, etc... This product beat them all on paper with the existing reviews and the warranty.

We've had this washer for two months now and with six people in the house and we do almost 20 - 25 loads of laundery per week. This machine has performed better than our Neptune, with the cleanliness, quietness (even at the highest spin cycle) and ease of use. We wipe down the door and rubber seal after each load and leave the door open to reduce the likelihood of a smell, as we did with our old Neptune. We've never had problems with mold or smells.

My wife loves this product, even with the fewer wash options than our old Neptune, there are so many other pluses. So far, we are very satisfied with our purchase. But with any front-load, there is some regular minor monthly maintenance that you have to perform to keep it in top condition.

Great Machine but RTFM

The LG is my first front loader. Comes with a vast array of options that are easy to use.

Upon starting the machine apparently measures the amount of laundry by measuring the torque required to spin both wet and dry. Adjust water accordingly. Control panel shows time remaining which is nice.

Another much appreciated feature is a completion tone that is adjustable from off to loud.

You need to read the manual if you want to use one of these machines and be satisfied

* Drain the sump per the manual

* Run the tub clean cycle on occasion per the manual (no soap but use bleach)

The machines do a great job of making dirty cloths clean with a minimal amount of water. They do take a while to run. They are also a lot easier on stuff than the upright machines.

The spin dry cycle also does a great job of getting the water out and as a result the dryer cycle takes less time.

One additional word . The water valves are fast acting . Therefore your plumbing may rattle or have hammering sounds . If so, buy some of the water hammer arrestors at Home Depot that attach to the faucet and dampen the pressure surge.

Highly recommended.

Very Happy

Just replaced my Maytag Neptune Washer (purchased in 2000) with this LG WM2016 1 week ago. I also purchased the stand so that the door would be more at my height. I use the drawer stand to sort clothing (it's not intended for a huge amount of laundry but it helps with sorting). I find the drawer very useful and am very glad I purchased it. The clothes have come out clean and almost dry. That means less drying time. The only down side is that opening to the tub is smaller on the LG than on my maytag. Compared to another Kenmore washer, the LG opening was 3 inches bigger (which for me makes a big difference) especially when you need to wash comforters or bulky items. You might want to take a measuring tape when you go look at washers, that really helped me. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it to others.

One month, so far so good

We researched all over and know about the need for special detergent and to leave the door open to prevent musty smells. Price checked all over for something entry level back to a top loader which I wasn't crazy about, and I went to Home Depot they offered this 10% off, free delivery, a $180.00 tax credit, and $150.00 for gas and water rebates, so after all that the price is really quite competitive. Pros it uses only 5 gals of water, has a direct drive motor, no agitator allows for larger loads, entry level machine with consumer reports excellent rating comparable to a Bosch washer. Cons door seems a bit weak will see over time, doesn't spin out the items as well as my old Kenmore washer. Even though we live in a new home which has a perfect vent out, the main reason for buying this machine is to gain time and space (literally). We read through many reviews of the previous model and there were issues with the drying (wrinkles). Due to the fact that this machine has a larger capacity, this wrinkling have been greatly reduced. I have actually just one pants that is made of rough thick cotton and it's the only one that is clearly more wrinkled compared to using a separate (air) dryer. However, we found already ways to minimize it and that is to use the post-wash tumbling option (you can choose to let the machine tumble intermittendly when it's all done, to prevent wrinkling). This is a smart move from LG.

Apart from that, this machine is just the best, I wouldn't know why you want to buy a separate washer and dryer:
During the day we throw in cloth and usually we set the delay time as "switch-on around 3am" and the next morning you take the cloth out, ready to use, no more pain in remembering to put the cloth from washer to dryer.
The machine is also so quiet that you can indeed do the above, it's a simply a whisperer.
We are quite "green" so this machine is for us, the energy usage is so low compare to standard washers and dryers, mainly due to the condense drying system. Standard dryers are like a combination of many hairdryers and you know ho wmuch wattage they have.
Last but not least, you safe so much space by eliminating 1 machine (dryer).
Great machine!

Best Combo Out There PERIOD.

My wife and I've had this unit for the last few weeks and we cannot be happier.

We looked at other units and their limitations:
1) Stackables - Not energy efficient enough, needs dryer vent, unreliable, small
2) Front loader, with electric dryer on top - needs dryer vent, small, not thin enough for space.
3) Other combos (Haier, LG WM343HWA) - poor workmanship, small drum, takes forever to dry

This LG is only 29" deep, and is all in one. It uses 110, no vent. Just hot/cold water and drain hookups. Holds 4.2 cubic ft of laundry and leaves clothes exceptionally clean. It is state of the art, LCD screen, LED light inside, multitudes of settings.

Obviously the dry cycle is longer, but a very small price to pay for all the pros! It is absolutely perfect for the small closet in our apartment.

It works exactly as advertised, no fuss, worth every penny.

Great Machine!

After an apparent frozen start, due to over exposure to cold weather prior to delivery, we've finally been able to use this washer/dryer multiple times for regular clothes, sweaters and a regular sized comforter.
The convenience cannot be beaten. This was purchased for an elder primarily to make laundry service available on the main level of the home and to end the multiple tasks of loading and unloading associated with regular washers and dryers. We put a half load in, set the dryer and retrieve most clothes dry enough to be folded and put away. I normally air dry most my clothes and I was pleasantly surprised to find that without setting the dryer, clothes were much dryer from the machine's fast spin than with a regular front loading washer.
The regular sized comforter had to air dry a bit more. Sweaters were perfect for natural drying. The aroma from the fabric softener was an added bonus to freshen the air and the added humidity was good too.
The unit is noisy but within tolerable limits. We can hear the water filling and upon spinning, the noise, especially a rattle from the back metal plate, seems to increase with the load size.
The unit plays tunes in response to starting, ending and errors, shows exactly what is being programmed on the illuminated display panel and displays a "door lock" message to eliminate damage from inappropriately trying to force the door open.
Overall, I love the unit.
Great job LG!

AMAZING machine!

After extensive research, we decided to take the plunge and invest a considerable amount of money in this machine. Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner! It is amazing. Even our plumber, after he installed it, said "This is a beautiful machine!" --- and believe me, he has seen quite a few washers in his day. He plans to buy one for his own home. We live in NYC and our options were limited, both space-wise and in terms of venting. So that eliminated many choices that other people have. From reviews, which were mostly positive, I was afraid of low drying quality, low capacity, and possible odors since it is a front-loading machine. We have had ZERO problems with any of these. And I would disagree with the reviewer who said that this machine is not for a family of 4, 5 or 6. We are a family of 5 (two adults, 3 kids under 5) and this machine is perfect for us. I do loads about every other day, according to color/temperature, which are never that big anyway, so capacity is never a problem. However, when I have had to do larger loads, such as sheets and towels (for example, two towels and two sets of twin size sheets), everything comes out clean and dry with NO problem. The features are incredible, in terms of washing possiblilities and others such as pre-wash, steam, allergeine, and a wide range of drying cycles. The dryer will keep tumbling periodically even after it is finished in order to prevent wrinkles, which is great. Sometimes I prefer the clothes to be left slightly damp (I hate when normal dryers "bake" my clothes), and so sometimes they will be a bit wrinkled when they come out. This problem is very easily solved either by drying them a bit longer, or running the steam feature to eliminate wrinkles. It is so efficient that hardly any detergent (must be HE) needs to be used, and you will not notice a difference at all in energy or water bills (it runs on a 220 volt and is designed to use very little water. The amount of water needed for each cycle is tailored to fit the amount you need to wash by the machine).
I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in trying to reduce their carbon and water footprints---not just those with limited options, like us. It has a child lock, which really comes in handy with young kids. I also love the fact that I can program or delay a wash; often I put clothes in in the morning and they are washed and dried when I come home. Now they just need to make a machine to fold the clothes and put them away!!!
We have had no problem with mold or odors (I think because of the built-in dryer), no problems with capacity or with drying. I would highly recommend this washer dryer combo to anyone, regardless of their options or their family size. It's amazing and WELL WORTH the investment! Why have two, huge, bulky machines when just one will do?
THe only drawback I can think of, which is very small, is that, if I had separate machines, I would sometimes do two wash loads and then dry them together. Very minor inconvenience. I should also add that this washer/dryer is VERY kind and gentle to your clothes!

Ultimate solution for the right circumstances.

I've had this thing for a month. I love it.

Quick background: I live with my girl on the top floor apartment. There was no original place to put this machine in. (No 220V electricity, venting, etc)

The installation was retrofit into our master closet (next to the bathroom) and the lines for water and drainage was run, and a simple 110V AC separate circuit was run to the area. This was all that's needed. No cutting/ducting for exterior venting, nor the higher voltage line for electric drying. The installation was trivial.

The washer/dryer has a lot of room for clothes, but we only fill it halfway. A good wash/dry cycle takes about 3-4 hours, and its a set-it and for-get-it kinda thing. It has a time delay, and we use that a lot, to plan for when we'll get home from shopping/movie.

The quality of the washing is insane. The steam really works proper, and the little extra things it does - like tumble yer clothes when its done to make sure nothing gets wrinkly - until you push the button and unload. This unit is really built around the user.

So if you dont have a regular laundry hookup, or no external venting, this is a great option. If you run a Chinese 1 hour laundry, this isnt for you.
We find the 3-4 hour wait for wash/dry completely acceptable, as we dont have to fight with the people downstairs in the laundry room, and we dont have to wait for a good washer, etc etc. We wash when we like, and its completely accomedating and fits in our lifestyle.

This family of 5 can't live without it..

After waiting for a very long time because of the cost we decided to finally take the plunge on this 2 in 1 unit after a brick and mortar store offered price match and no-interest for 18 months. WE are so happy that we went for it! I don't know how we survived without it. Well actually we do know how we did... our 3rd bedroom had a minimum of 10 laundry bags waiting to go out. It was an endless and vicious cycle that never came to an end.

The washing performance of this unit is impeccable! We have been using it religiously since December 2008 and are in love. There are many different cycles that offer a myriad of water temps, soil levels, spin cycle speeds and drying time variations. We basically use the Cotton cycle for most of our wash and the cold/cold water option. This machine is so efficient and works wonderfully with nothing but cold water. It truly does remove stains! Since it is a front loader and energy efficient, then you MUST use HE liquid. We have used the Tide 2X HE and Wisk 3X HE; personally we love the Tide scent but the Wisk offers you more bang for your buck at this time because it is 3X concentrated.

I read and re-read the reviews posted on here and another site and found that the machine *MIGHT* be okay for our family of 5. We are very happy to report that the machine keeps the wash in check in our household and we honestly average 3 loads a week. It is my husband, myself, 6 year old, 5 year old (asthma sufferer) and 2 year old. The machine has a large 4.2 cubic foot capacity allowing for an extra large load at a time. As others have pointed out, your drying capacity is not 4.2 but rather half, or half of the load that you have originally placed in. It was a trial and error of a few loads to figure the drying aspect of this wonderful machine.

I also wash my King comforter with the Bulky/Large cycle. There is no dry cycle for this setting because it is for very large items that would otherwise not normally dry in a dryer. It does a wonderful job of washing our bedding and removing all of the excess water for hang drying on our closet door. That specific cycle is 54 minutes long.

What works for us is to not always drying the loads. We have set up a tension rod in our second bathroom shower area and air dry our clothes. We truly cram a lot of clothes in there and it does a great job each and every time. Within a couple of hours the clothes are fully dried and ready to put away. If we are just doing our second upkeep weekly load we usually just dry because it isn't as gigantic as our original load. The dryer DOES indeed work and makes everything toasty hot. For others who claim it doesn't, then their machine must have been overloaded or it may have been a very heavy, bulky item. The dryer runs on steam so it sprays small amounts of water on your clothes. YES, it does wet your clothes to dry them; not sure how it does it, but it does work! A cotton/normal (average) wash cycle with added 16 minute pre-wash cycle, high spin and more dry will take you about 4 hrs. Unless you are watching the machine, you will not notice the time.

Pros:
*Ventless system that is a great set up for apartment dwellers.

*Many wash cycles and water temp options that really clean clothes.

*Energy efficient... we haven't noticed a difference on our electric or water bill as of yet. Keep in mind we are washing in cold water.

*Convenience of just drying without washing if necessary. Just select DRY after turning the machine on and select time desired.

*Being able to PAUSE any time during the cycle to either, add, remove, relocate or just check on your items.

*Allergiene and Steam cycles remove allergens for those that have asthma sufferers or any allergies.

CONS:
*Extra Large capacity drum does wonderfully washing but will have to be cut in half for drying.

*The wonderful PAUSE feature that I constantly use has an 8 minute time out. Twice I would be in the middle of doing something and time out... I would unfortunately lose the whole cycle and have to start either from the beginning or somewhere near that. Not really a con, but an annoyance. The reality is that you can not do that at the laundromat so the feature is a GOD send at the end of the day. Many times, I have the kids bring me articles 5 mins later even though I was screaming at the top of my lungs to BRING ME EVERYTHING. That feature saved me.

*Our floors in the kitchen aren't rigid enough so at times on the extra high spin cycle we have shaking and vibrating througout the whole kitchen. The only remedy for this is to have good flooring. We are researching whether the stand can buffer some of the vibration.

So... my long review was trying to convince you to take a chance the way we did. Forget the negative reviews... they don't make sense. My wife and I love LG !

If your looking for a washer/dryer for your family of 4, 5 or 6... this is NOT NOT NOT FOR YOU!

However, if your looking for a ENERGY STAR washer/dryer with STEAM and ALLERGIENE (great for those who have allergies or simply want the best of the best wash)... look no further!

Is it cheap? No. However, that is why Home Depot and many stores offer 12 or 24 months 0% financing.

It DOES take a bit longer to wash and dry your clothes, however you simply dump your dirty laundry and forget about it. When the cycle is done, you can either hang dry or set the washer/dryer to automatically dry your clothes when finished. It usually takes 90 min to 120 min to complete a load (wash AND dry).

However, my wife and I noticed you don't have to "shout-out" all those stains and "stuff" we usually did before.

Not only do the clothes smell great, but the feel CLEAN!!!

I would NEVER have imagined myself spending this much for a washer/dryer, however are very happy about our purchase.

Even if you have a kid.. or two... We've washed about 4 loads of laundry so far, and we LOVE it!! Load #1 was a mix of jeans (4 pair), shirts, socks, & underwear, load #2 was a sheet set from a king size bed, load #3 was a blanket from a king size bed, and load #4 was about 6 pair of shorts. We also threw 3 wrinkled shirts in to try out the 20-minute steam cycle which removes wrinkles.

We've been having problems with our dryer vent. Our house was built in the early 1980's when they were using the flex plastic dryer vents. Due to the way our house is setup, it would have been some major construction and several thousand dollars to replace the dryer vent. We were having to run the dryer through 2 or 3 (sometimes more) cycles to get things thoroughly dry. This was making the electric bill higher than it should be. It also caused the heating element on the dryer to burn out and need to be replaced 3 times due to not being vented well. I did have the dryer vent cleaned out and it helped a little, but it still didn't work great. We had looked at the other LG combo units in the past, but didn't get one due to their small size and poor reviews. We decided to check them out again and found this new "full size" unit which had great reviews, so decided to take the plunge this time around.

It takes about 3 1/2 to 4 hours from start to finish to wash and dry a load in this LG, but that's not a big deal for us. You just start it up and let it do its thing. There are two people (including myself) in our home, so we don't normally have huge amounts of laundry to do. Instead of doing all the laundry one day a week, we've decided to do smaller loads a couple times a week. This new unit uses MUCH less water than our old washer, so the water bill should go down a little. Also, the electric bill should go down some since we won't be running a dryer two or three times per load. Another plus is that since it's just a single unit, we've put in shelving where the dryer used to be and now have a little more storage space!

The only drawback we've found so far is that there is no way to dry-only without washing. I would recommend that you thoroughly read the owner's manual before first use if you buy this unit. In our excitement to try it out, we ran the first load through without reading the manual and selected a cycle that washes only and doesn't dry. We then had to run the load through a wash cycle again to dry. The owner's manual has a chart in it that clearly shows what each of the cycles does and doesn't do. There are two or three cycles that will only wash and won't dry. Other than no option to dry without washing, I've found no drawbacks/problems with this unit and wish I would have bought it a long time ago.

This unit cost us much less (and no construction mess) than it would have cost to replace the dryer vent, and will end up saving us money on water and electricity. Thank you to LG for an awesome product!! We purchased from A.J. Madison which had the best price we could find anywhere, plus no tax (since we're not in NY) and free shipping!

UPDATE 10/18/08: I stand corrected! D.M. let me know that there is a dry-only option, and indeed there is! It's not listed anywhere at all in the owner's manual, so we weren't aware of how to do it. After you turn the unit on you have to press the Dry button BEFORE you turn the cycle selection knob, and it then puts the unit into dry-only mode. THANK YOU, D.M.!!! :-)

Amazing option, especially for apartments and small homes

This washer/dryer combo has been a dream and I would and have recommended it to everyone. I have had it for 6 months now - yes, the clothes do come out a slight bit damp - but a quick shake or two and they are soon dry. I can fit my entire california king sheet set in here plus two bath towels and they come out just fine. I can't say enough good things about this machine. It is pretty quiet - a bit loud during the spin cycle, but if you get a noise/vibration pad under the unit, it definitely helps. I have been using the seventh generation liquid soap and softener in here with no extra foam over. The delicate cycle is also nice - did not twist and bind up stuff like my old washer.

The only con I have to say is that you need to drain the unit every couple of months to get out the extra fuzz in the lint trap.

Overall - if you are in a townhome or apartment and want a solution to having to share a common washer/dryer with your neighbors, this is definitely a great solution.

UPDATED REVIEW

For our lifestyle the washer and dryer is perfect. The dimensions were critical and it fit into its space like a glove. We live in a log cabin and have limited space, we are downsizing and this reall fit the bill. It is a benefit that it uses such a small amount of water as well as power. I would recommend this to others with the idea being IT IS NOT A FULL SIZE W/D. We plan to hang some clothes out when we can, save energy and use the power of the mountain sun.
My wife liked the looks of it so much she asked not to have a door put over the laundry "room" (cabinet).
Again as I said this works for us.
UPDATE: 3 months after purchase the unit failed to drain. We had to drain it using the manual drain. called the service line from where we bought it, US Appliance, they said they would get someone out to service the unit. NO one did, after 4 days I started calling lg service myself, no one would come to our location. we are in the mountains. on day seven I went to SEARS and bought a new stack W/D they delivered it the next day and TOOK the useless LG away.
IN a word, unless you live in a LG service area DO NOT BUY LG, investigate the service area very well before you decide.

Great for a small apartment

I bought this because we moved into a very small place and wanted to build shelves over where the dryer would normally go using a stackable combination. This is a very good solution for the small apartment dweller, as it runs on a normal 110 volt 3-prong outlet, easily hooks up to a faucet with sink, and doesn't need a vent. I have been very satisfied so far, but I would recommend reading the other comments for the various caveats. If you are willing to change your laundry paradigm, this might be right for you. The 2.4 cu ft model doesn't hold much but is good for two people or if you have a larger family, then every other day. Yes, it doesn't dry as much in the same drum. I have found that even though the clothes feel damp when they are pulled out, if you do it at the end of the cycle when they are hot and spread them out for a couple of minutes, they end up dry. This is a very energy efficient washer/dryer and the energy/water rebates where we live in the SF-Bay Area are quite high.

Mommy is Happy!

Most reviews explained the convenience of the LG for a couple but said it probably wouldn't be good for a family. I guess it depends how you look at it. We have a washer and dryer in a laundry room downstairs but when I was pregnant my laundry duties stopped: it was hard to manage baskets up and down the stairs, I wasn't feeling well, forgetting to switch the clothes into the dryer, and then finding time to fold big loads. We installed the 24inch model in our Master Bedroom closet and I am back to doing laundry. Our children's bedrooms are upstairs and so are mommy and daddy - so ultimately, that's where all the clothes are - ready to go. About 5 mornings a week I throw in one small load - by nap time - it's done and easy to sort and fold. It doesn't matter to me that it takes 4 hours. The clothes come out clean, fresh and my daughter enjoys our morning "laundry" routine as she puts clothes in there with me.
Now, the technical stuff.
*My husband set it up in a day - he needed to do some wiring and piping.
*It's not too loud.
*It has a child safety lock.
*You can run multiple cycles - including diapers.
*It gages how much clothes are in the machine and sets the amount of time.
*The detergent/softer dispenser is very easy to pull out and rinse in a sink for cleaning.
*You can only fill it about 1/2 way with clothes because the dryer can only do about 1/2 of the wash load. You will do many more loads of laundry. "A little at a time."
We still have our washer/dryer downstairs for bulky items but we are actually thinking of replacing those with the larger model in case we have to wash a lot of towels or something. I feel like a family of 4 could live off 1 larger model.
Overall, I'm back to doing laundry and it's not a complaint anymore.

Great solution to my laundry problem

I live in an apartment and, although we have a laundry room, there is only one washer and dryer for 8 units, it's downstairs and I had to hoard quarters (6 per load). I finally got tired of sharing with the neighbors and having such a small window of time to do laundry (i.e. not while I'm at work, not after 10pm, etc).

I looked at washer/dryer combos a couple of years ago and didn't see anything that looked worth the cost. When I tried again a few weeks ago I came across the LG and was pleasantly surprised by the mostly positive reviews. I spent a LOT of time reading reviews and researching the LG so I was pretty familiar with the pros and cons of the machine by the time I got it. I was able to order it online while it was on sale and used an additional 12% off coupon that made the price more palatable. It also let me spring for the titanium version that I just like the looks of.

I've had the unit for about a week now and I am extremely pleased with it. After a couple of trips to the hardware store (casters, a mixer/y hose and a quick release adapter for the faucet) I was up and running within minutes. I'm on the second floor and am very surprised at how quiet this machine is. It actually makes less noise than my dishwasher and, since the neighbors have never complained about that, I'm assuming I'll have no problems with the washer. I was also worried about it dancing across the floor on its wheels (since my designated shopper bought casters without locks and I was too impatient to go exchange them) but I park it on my kitchen rug and it stays in place, no problem.

An entire load takes less time than I expected (after reading some reviewers complaints) and the clothes are perfectly dry once you pull them out of the machine and let them air for a couple of seconds. I have noticed that items come out more wrinkled then they do in a conventional dryer but, for me, that's a small tradeoff for the convenience.

I put a load in yesterday before I went to work and set the timer to finish about the time I get home. I walked in the door to the pleasant scent of clean clothes and hung them up - very nice. I expect that I will be doing this most days so the additional time to run a load won't make any difference for me. Also, the added benefit of not having to be home to transfer the load from the washer to the dryer means I can truly set-and-forget my laundry. I am loving this!

One minor complaint is the child-lock. I don't have children and would prefer to be allowed to take my chances opening the door once the load is complete or on a whim mid-cycle. It would be nice to be able to disable this 'feature'.

All in all, if you've done your research and understand the limitations of this machine (smaller loads, longer cycle times, more wrinkles) and still want one I think you will be very, very pleased with it.

Good All-In-One

This machine works pretty good. Anyone would think this machine could handle the laundry of five people in two loads needs expand their horizons and look at high capacity washers. This machine is for couples and singles in apartments not the Waltons and certainly not the Brady Bunch. For the price you could have bought two maytag washers and two dryers and did your laundry in the four hours you say one load. So far I am very satisfied with it. It does an excellent job washing and drying clothes. Drying does take longer but that is not an inconvenience for me. The machine has a "dry only" setting so I just pop the clothes back in if more drying time is needed. And it runs so quietly that I can use it almost any time of day (or night) without having to worry about annoying my condo neighbors. But you have to pay attention to some guide lines:
1. the concept of this unit is to help users to set and forget. Be ready to expect a longer washing cycles comparing to regular washers.
2. with this capacity it is perfect for one load per person. so expect to have six cycles a week for three users. this what we used to do since we bought this washer.
3. as it is a combo unit, you don't have to do your laundary on the weekend, it only needs few minutes to sort your laundary, load it, push few buttons and go to your work...shopping or even go to sleep. the drying will start automatically once the wash cycle is over.
4. if the items you're washing needs to tumble during the drying cycle, it is better to have smaller loads and that will help avoid wrinkles spaecially in jeans. and remember that drying needs a drum of a double size of the washing drum. so if you have the maximum washing load and you don't want to come back to split the load , just expect a longer drying time.
5. i'm personally satisfied with this unit as it is only me, my wife and my one year old child. as a small familly we stil don't do our laundary on the same day.

Fantastic, efficient machine with some quirks

I won't repeat everything that has been said in the other reviews in detail, but I agree that the performance and efficiency (water and power) of this machine are excellent. It's gentle on clothes, pretty quiet, and has lots of great options including the ability to delay the wash.

A couple of tips/caveats, however:
*The "auto-dry" feature is very convenient, but takes a lot longer than the "timed dry" feature. It will take roughly half the time using timed dry, which I believe uses higher heat.
*Setting it to run on a delay is great for having laundry dry and ready to fold when you come home, but you need to use powdered detergent (not liquid) if using this feature.
*Once drying is done and goes to "cool down" mode (which keeps it periodically tumbling to prevent wrinkles, you have to hit start, then wait several minutes before the door unlocks. This is to prevent kids from getting burned, but it's irritating.
*The biggest issue is that over time lint builds up inside the machine which restricts airflow and slows drying, since there's no real lint trap (the little one at the bottom doesn't really work). This happens especially if you wash/dry a lot of high-lint items like towels, and you'll notice that your clothes are taking longer and longer to dry. The good news is that it's not that hard to clean out, and doing so will restore the drying time of ~90 minutes for a full load. I have a step by step "how-to" guide with pictures here:
http://fish.freeshell.org/LGWM3431HW.html

Great Washer/Dryer

I know there's a love/hate relationship with some folks regarding these washer/dryer combos.
On the one hand, it takes longer to dry (dries well only with smaller loads of 8 lbs or less), the capacity is not like the full sized washers, clothes come out a bit wrinkled, it's a heavy machine (not easily movable), not good for larger households, and the washer/dryer can be expensive. These machines are not heavy duty and should NOT be stuffed with clothes like a regular size top loading! The more you stuff it, the more wrinkled clothes comes out, and the harder it is for the machine to dry!

On the other hand, compact, perfect for small condos/apartments, convenience (NO MORE Laundromats!), plugs into a regular electrical socket, despite longer drying times my electric bill is only a couple of dollars more per month, uses less water, saves on washing detergent (uses less than top loading machines), and it's been reliable (no problems).
For me, a good product is one that lasts long time with normal use. Every so often I drain and clean the lint from the bottom of the machine, and clean the back hose connection filter (the washer will tell you when it's time). I have an older LG model similar to this one that's little over 4 years old, and it washes all types of clothes/linen very well. I wear washable dress slacks/shirts/stockings, and it has saved me money because it comes out damp, and I can air dry them overnight (no shrinkage or fading because of hot air), so my clothes last longer. I wash several times per week. To me, this machine is fairly quiet, except when it dries you'll hear the pump draining the water. I can sleep at night and my clothes will be dry in the morning. No washing machine is absolutely quiet, but this "direct drive" motor is a lot quieter than my old belt driven top loading washer! You can hook this washer to a backyard hose or to a kitchen facet (with a small adapter that you can get from OSH/Home Depot).
I've had a separate full sized washer and dryer when I lived in a house, and yes, I would prefer that. What if space, dryer venting, and special electrical voltage is an issue in a condo or apartment?
I would recommended this washer/dryer combo for one or two people in a household.
I am happy with mine and it does the job.

ONLY for dwellings that have no venting or washer/dryer hookup

After some initial research into the matter, I found out that you would need a special hookup for either a washer or a dryer (you need both water input and a way to dispose of the dirty water without overflowing your pipes) and you need venting for the dryer. The majority of machines that were designed to perform in an apartment WITHOUT such a hookup had review after review complaining of poor cleaning, high energy usage, breaking down, noise, super small load capacities, and leakage. But further searching found this LG WM3431 Washer/Dryer with mostly positive reviews on the different websites. It was the answer to my prayers. (Note: Despite the negative reviews, you will NOT find a better washer/dryer combo that can operate in an apartment without venting).

The Pros
1. For apartments --It's one of only a few machines on the market that's designed to work in a small space without a traditional washer or dryer hookup. That means that the electric plug goes into any three-prong outlet in your house and the water input hose can be connected to your sink. The water outlet hose dispenses into any drain and does not dump a huge amount of water so as to overwhelm your sink or bath pipes. The dryer also doesn't need a hot air vent out a window or anything. Of the machines of this genre, I've found that the LG delivers superior performance.
2. Cleaner clothes while using less water. Also, the LG WM3431 has a sanitary cycle that cleans clothes with super hot water and has kept my whites gleaming.
3. Money --I calculated that at $1.50 per wash and $1.50 per dry, it would cost me $312 a year to do 2 small loads weekly and $468 a year to do 3 small loads weekly. The machine would pay for itself in two to three years. That's not to mention the prospect of resale and the time you save yourself from driving to the laundromat and sitting there waiting.
4. Aesthetic--the machine is beautiful.
5. Timer-- allows you to load your laundry and detergent before you leave for work and to have it start running and complete its cycle just in time for when you come home. The timer can be set for up to 19 hours later. And since this is an all-in-one machine, you obviously don't need to be home to switch the load from your washer to your dryer.
6. Protects clothing - I only found this out after going on vacation and using a regular washer and dryer for two weeks. Cheap clothes which I thought were better quality than they actually were, lost probably 1/4 their color during my vacation. I realized that the steam mechanism of the dryer, though it takes longer, is gentler on clothes than forced hot air. All my clothing has maintained the color and quality as on the day I bought it, using the LG washer/dryer combo.

The Cons
1. Time --It takes anywhere from 3-5 hours to do an entire wash and dry, depending on the options you choose. The spin cycle can add a lot of extra time. Be mindful of how you load your laundry (i.e. Put one towel on the bottom, some clothes in between, and another towel on top.) If the machine is imbalanced, it will reset and reset and try to balance the load. I've found that if you use only the low spin cycle with the sheet and towel loads, the items will still get sufficiently dry, but the machine will start spinning a lot faster.
2. Vibration --Others have complained that the machine vibrates violently. I have never had this problem. The machine really does not move or jump at all, even if it's on the very high spin.
3. Capacity --I can fit a queen fitted sheet, duvet cover, and 4 pillowcases in there, though it's a bit snug. I probably do about 2-3 loads of clothing a week (for a family of 2 adults and 1 toddler), plus an additional load every other week for sheets, towels, and tablecloths. I wouldn't recommend this machine for a much larger family, but I think that there is a larger capacity model available from LG.
4. Noise --It's actually stealthily quiet during the wash and spin cycles, humming at no louder than your air conditioner. However, the mechanism the machine employs to expel water for your rinse cycles and throughout the long drying cycle is really very loud. Sounds as loud as a car (but maybe not a motorcycle) revving its engine very loudly.
5. WRINKLES!!--Another major problem is that the way the machine dries, using a condensation method rather than hot air, leaves clothing feeling sometimes damp and often wrinkled when taken out of the machine. My clothes always feels damp when taken immediately from the machine, but 95% of the time, when you spread out the laundry, the steam dissipates and the clothes are actually dry. (Sweaters, jeans, and large items may still be truly damp, unless you've run the machine for very long.) My solution to the wrinkle problem has been to cut my losses and bring extra large items (sheets, tablecloths, dresses, and whatever else MUST be wrinkle-free) down to the basement and just pay to dry it in a regular hot air dryer. My other loads have fared well in the wrinkle department so long as you fill the fabric softener tray to the MAX with fabric softener (I use a non-scented one for this reason) and if you take the clothes out of the dryer as soon as the dry cycle ends. (The dryer continues to run on a "cool-down" mode after it's finished drying, I guess in an attempt to prevent wrinkles, but it causes more wrinkles.)
6. Door Latch--It keeps the door locked and waits 1-2 minutes before releasing it if you stop the machine mid-cycle and after it's finished drying. So you have to actually wait to pull open the door. I've had instances where I just started the machine and noticed I dropped a sock on the ground and have had to pause the machine, wait 2 minutes, then open up the door and to throw the sock in.
7. Child Lock--The only thing that changes when you put the child lock on is that it disables the start/pause button and if you turn off the machine, you cannot turn it back on w/o disabling the child lock first. However, the power button still works and the child can turn the machine off in the first place. I cannot tell you how many times my toddler has run over to the washer and turned off my machine mid-cycle by pushing the oooooh! shiny blue colored power button. And I've had to restart the machine (but only after holding down and turning off the child lock) and have the washer begin at the start of the cycle where it left off. It takes extra time this way. And boy is it annoying.
You would think that the least the child lock would keep the door latch locked so that a child cannot climb inside the washer drum. Nope. If the machine is turned off or if it has just completed wash, the door latch will unlock automatically regardless of whether the child lock is on or off. Essentially, the child lock only disables one button on the entire machine. It's pretty much useless otherwise. I wish LG could improve upon this.
8. BIGGEST DRAWBACK: Because the WM3431 does not dry clothes using hot air, there is no lint trap. Then, where does the lint/hair go? Well, some of it you'll find accumulating in the rubber gasket around the door. But small amounts of it accumulate in the condenser tube/duct that is INSIDE the machine. You have to actually disassemble the machine to get to it. (Yes, this is a major design flaw.) If your machine starts taking longer and longer to dryer (even longer than 3 hours) or doesn't dry altogether, this could be the problem. If you're brave of heart, you can disassemble the top and back covers of the machine and find the white plastic duct. Inside, you'll probably find a mass of lint/hair that's blocking the air from getting to the tub and not letting your clothes dry. Once removed, your machine will work like new. You may not want to disassemble the washer/dryer, though, as it could void a warranty. But some servicemen have said that it is a flaw in this model and recommends clearing these ducts once a year. I have had the WM3431 for 2.5 years now, and only now did I have to pull it open and clear the lint. Other ppl may have to do it more often if they have clothes that give off more lint or if they have pets that shed hair. Annoying? Definitely yes. But thank goodness, we got the free extended warranty and a serviceman cleared ducts for us. I watched him and it really wouldn't be too hard to do it myself, but, yes, it would have been better not to have to do it at all.

Bottom Line:
If you can possibly buy the traditional separate washer and dryer units, by all means, do so! But if you live in a place where there's no traditional washer/dryer hook-up available, and you're looking to buy, the LG WM3431 is the best choice on the market (ESP. over the Haier models which constantly break down). Just remember to purchase a (full coverage) extended warranty agreement and keep in mind some of my tips above. Good luck!

LG WM2601HR 4.5 Cu. Only 2 feet in width, the WM3431HW saves floor space while utilizing ventless drying and nine (9) tailored wash programs. The LG WM3431HW combination washer & dryer is truly the perfect unit for apartments, condos and other living spaces lacking typical washer dryer connections. What does the LG WM3431HW offer that sets it apart from the rest? Highly Energy Efficient Combination Washer Dryer: The LG WM3431HW combo washer dryer is EnergyStar rated and achieved CEE Tier 3B for energy efficiency! Although combo washer dryers are generally more energy efficient than standard washers and dryers, this unit is particularly notable for its energy and water efficiency. Large Cubic Foot Capacity: The LG WM3431HW combo washer dryer offers a large 2.11 cubic foot drum (which has the same capacity as a 2.44 cubic foot top loading drum, due to the "wasted space" of the agitator in a top loader), with greater than 15 pounds of wash capacity. This is on par with the largest capacity 24" wide washer dryers available today. Minimal Ambient Noise:The LG WM3431HW combo washer dryer also features a direct drive drum. The direct drive drum minimizes the noise and vibration that other washer dryer combos can produce. Internal Heat Booster: The LG WM3431HW combination washer dryer also features an internal water heat booster to add more heat to your hot water line which provides for highly sanitized laundry.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lgwasher.blogspot.com/2009/07/lg-washer-dryer-combo-ventless-15-lb.html' title='LG Washer / Dryer Combo - Ventless, 15 lb. Hands down.
Best washer I've ever used, hands down.

This washer gets my clothes cleaner the first time, is gentler on them, and uses less water and energy. I've found several of the other features extremely useful as well. The sanitary cycle actually came in very handy a couple times, such as when the toilet flooded and got all the towels wet. The very high spin speed really does extract almost all of the water from most loads, coming out nearly dry means less drying time (less energy and much gentler on the clothes.) and quicker turnaround on getting laundry done.

Ours gets used fairly heavily (5 to 6 full loads a week generally as a minimum), which doesn't sound like much, but this washer's capacity is so huge that that translates to probably 10 to 12 loads in a normal top-loader, probably closer to 16 or 18 in a standard laundromat size.

LG : WM0742HGA 27" XL Front-Load Steam Washer - Pearl Grey

Product Description

Up-front electronic control panel with Dial-A-Cycle option: Offers simple and reliable operation. We had concerns about having a washer/dryer in our living area because of noise, but they have been totally unfounded. One room away from the living room and TV, we rarely even notice it working as it goes through its cycles. Our other concern was whether we would have problems with vibration and the washer wanting to "walk" during the extremely high speed spin cycle of these new front loaders. The first few loads put our minds to rest. Even at the highest spin speed the vibration is hardly noticeable. LG has done a great job engineering this unit. Note, however, that this washer needs to be on a solid floor (concrete or ceramic tile) to work properly. I wouldn't recommend installing it on a wood or laminate floor. We purchased the optional pedestals, which puts these at a great height for convenience and comfort. Built-in drawers, too. Very large capacity, and there are plenty of cycle choices and options, but not terribly complicated to operate. My wife says it does a much better job of cleaning the clothes than our old top loader, using much less water and HE detergent.

The only drawback so far is that a typical wash cycle takes about 90 minutes. If you're used to much less than that, and if it's a critical factor for you, consider another washer. We're not in that big of a hurry. It does have a "speed wash" cycle which can run a load through considerable faster if you find yourself in a hurry. My wife also uses the "extra rinse" option, which adds a few more minutes. Probably not necessary, but it's there if you want it.

The only reason that I didn't give this washer 5 stars is because we haven't owned it long enough to know if it will hold up well over the years. It's direct drive, which was one of the criteria that made me choose it over other models. I'm hoping that this will also add to the reliability. If it's continuing to work well in a few years then it definitely deserves a 5 star rating.

Great washer
I've had this washer and the LG DLE 5955G dryer for about 6 months now. I absolutely love both of them. This is my first front loading w/d set and I could not be happier.

LG WM2801HWA 4.5 Cu. The Extra Large Load Capacity, allows you to fit fabrics that take up more room, such a denims, bed sheets and towels, in just one load! The TilTub is a unique feature that is designed with a 10 tilt for easy reach of clothing in the rear of the drum. No more losing your socks! The seven washing programs, allow you to customize your wash easily, to ensure the best possible results. The LoDecibel Quiet Operation gives you high performance without unwanted noise, so you no longer have to wait until leaving the house, or finishing dinner before starting a cycle.

Customer Reviews

Fresh & Clean clothes, no discernable lows!
This washer is just phenomenal! It cleans VERY well, even in my hard well water. It's very quiet, only producing what some may deem objectionable amounts of noise during the spin cycle, which operates at an incredible 1200 RPM to extract every last bit of moisture possible out of the clothes before you get them out of the washer, which makes your drying of the clothes far more efficient, as the drying time is shortened so much. I've noticed a significant savings in gas usage (drying and hot water) since purchasing this machine.

The machine has to be EXTREMELY level, easy to take care of if you use eight (yes, EIGHT) little levels. Each corner has two sides, so it's easiest to level the machine with one on each side of each corner. You can find cheap ones at the dollar store or bargain bins that work just fine for this purpose.

This washer will wash an overstuffed King-sized down comforter easily. I can even fit the cover in with it.

It has many features, including on-board water heater (essential when dealing with as little water as these machines use, to keep the temperature up), "sanitary" (super-hot water) cycle, pre-wash, and many others. You can even set up custom programs.

The minor gripes: Pre-wash cycle has to have powder put in the compartments, as liquid just drains right into the washer. Cycle times are longer than a top-loader, but the capacity of this thing makes up for that...it's just another of the things to get used to vs. a top-loader. The "cute chime" signalling finished laundry is too quiet to hear on any floor but the one the washer's on. No biggie - the estimated time to finish is usually dead-on unless you get an unbalanced load, which doesn't happen often. Less often, in fact, than my old top-loader.

To ALL who experience problems with smell: LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN BETWEEN USES! This is stated very clearly in the owner's manual. I've NEVER had a problem with mildew odor, and I simply leave the door open every time. It's just one of those things to get used to with a front-loader vs. a top-loader.

Also, the torque this thing puts out may strain a floor that isn't specially reinforced to handle the power of this machine, so it's recommended only on cement (I have carpeted cement where mine is located) or specially reinforced flooring. Many people would do well to make note that this is NOT a conventional top-loader!

A reminder: front-loaders require H.e. detergent, or a VERY SMALL amount of regular. H.e. compatible detergents like that one "Signature" Powder work just fine.

All in all, I love this machine! (I can't believe I'm saying that about a laundry machine...)

works fine for me
I bought this and the matching dryer at Best Buy after extensive research. It works great but you do have to know a few things about this type of machine. After you do the wash, you have to leave the door open for air to circulate in there and completely dry anything. If you don't do this, you'll have a musty smell that you'll need to run a hot bleach cycle to get rid of it. Yes, I learned this the hard way. My wife, who grew up in Germany, later said, "oh, yeah...I forgot to tell you that".

The only problem I had with this machine is while removing clothes, I spun the drum to make sure I got everything and the unit powered on. The next load, I got an LE error code on the display panel. This means you need to call for service. Let me save you the trouble. Just unplug the unit for 15-20 minutes and it will reset itself and all in the world will be fine again.

Otherwise, this has run well and cleans like it's supposed to. My only suggestion would be to buy the drawer units to avoid having to bend down so far. It gets to be a pain.

Great Washer
We just received the LG WM0642H washer this morning and I've used it once. I did a lot of research before making the purchase because I wanted to get something good and energy efficient. Before buying I researched pros and cons and read the manual. The manual stated that for for optimum performance there is a small amount of maintenance that should be done regularly. Supposedly the maintenance will take care of any mold, mildew, smell, or stain issues that some people experience. I don't know if people who say they have those problems with this machine do the maintenance or not but I plan to do it.

I was impressed with how quiet the machine is! The total wash cycle is fairly long but the time is made up by how quickly the items dry due to the spin cycle of the washer. I used regular detergent that said it was HE compatible by simply using less of it, which seemed to work well. When the machine was done I wiped down the door, seal, and a little of the drum and left the washer door open to let it fully dry out. I believe this is supposed to help keep it from getting too humid and causing mold to grow inside. I've never had a front loader before but I always left the top up on my top loader for a while so it could air out so leaving the door open on this one seems reasonable.

The first load I did to test it out was a full load of towels since they are heavier and I wanted to make sure the spin cycle didn't make the machine vibrate unduly. When the machine was installed the installer used a level in two directions to make sure it was level, which it was (I watched). When I read the installation instructions after he left I noticed that it said to level it during the spin cycle (which he did not), so when I did my laundry I put my level on it and tested it myself. It was spot on level and during the spin cycle it vibrated, but did not move.

I realize that I've only used it once so far but the future looks bright for this machine!

LG White Front Load Washer WM2010CW

           Product Description

Established in 1958, LG Electronics, Inc. LG Electronics set its mid- and long-term vision anew to rank among the top 3 electronics, information, and telecommunication firms in the world by 2010. As such, they embrace the philosophy of Great Company, Great People, whereby only great people can create a great company, and pursue two growth strategies involving fast innovation and fast growth. Likewise, they seek to secure three core capabilities: product leadership, market leadership, and people-centered leadership. XL Front Load Stackable Washing Machine with 9 Washing Programs Ultra Capacity with NeveRust Stainless Steel Drum The largest capacity front load washer for the consumer market which means fewer loads, easy handling of large comforters and better water and energy efficiency. Intelligent Electronic Controls with Dual LED Display and Dial-A-Cycle Intuitive controls allow you to 'set it and go'. Try stacking the washer and dryer. More space? Place them side by side or under a counter. Don't want to bend down so far to load or unload clothing? Add their tall drawer pedestals. They're also a great place to store laundry products. Sanitary Cycle Get tough stains and bacteria out of dirty clothes with this special cycle that boosts water to 158*F. Load Size Sensing Indicator Determines the size of the load so you can gauge how much detergent to use. The benefit is that you will only use the amount of detergent you need, saving you money.

Customer Reviews

Fantastic Washing Machine - Hope it was worth the money
My old Maytag finally died after about 10 years. I guess that's a good shelf life although the only thing wrong was that the transmission was leaking and getting tiny oil stains on my clothes. Apparently you can't purchase new "seals" and just have to replace the whole transmission which is, of course, cost prohibitive. My wife wanted a front loader to save on the utility bills. The reason we settled on the LG was the larger 4.2 cu ft. There were only one or two models that were bigger but they were way over $1000 which was our cut off. We bought it at Sears because they have, in my opinion, the BEST customer care out there. Anytime we have to buy a major appliance Sears is where we go. Anyway - here are the perks:
1. I cannot believe how little water this thing uses. I'd never seen a front loader in action before but instead of an entire basin filling with water if you can imagine it's almost like there are a bunch of tiny "water guns" circling the rim that occasionally shoot some water out on the clothes.
2. There is a spot for detergent, another for bleach, another for fabric softener, and one extra spot that I put a little Borax in. All this is in a tiny "drawer" that opens and closes at the top of the machine.
3. It spins the clothes for about a minute to automatically determine what the load size is and adjusts the water level accordingly.
4. There are TONS of different wash and rinse combinations. Most take at least an hour to do but they also have a "speed wash" that took 20 minutes from start to finish. I used this cycle once after my wife had an allergic reaction to a new shower soap we tried. Some of the allergens were in the sheets but they weren't soiled or dirty and consequently that option came in very useful.
5. It has INCREDIBLY FAST spin cycles that get the clothes alot closer to dry which means less dryer time.
6. I think it's pretty quiet although we have it in our basement so that's not a critical issue.
7. There's a child lock button you can press so that if you have small children that think it's fun to press all the different lighted flashing buttons they can do so to their hearts content without messing up your washing instructions.
The CONS: (I should point out that these have to do with ALL Front Loaders and nothing really specific to the LG).
1. First and foremost THE PRICE. We paid just under $1000 for the washer itself. When I was leaving Sears I noticed that most of the top loaders were less than $500. True our utility bills will be less but it'll be quite a while before we make up that loss.
2. These washers have so many bells and whistles that they all now have little computers instead of just some simple nobs. To me I worry that there is now alot more that can go wrong with them and might be costly to repair but before buying a front loader I checked with our repair guy who said to date they haven't really had any problems with them.
3. Once you hit "start" you're committed. Unlike the top loader that will allow you to add a few more clothes that you might have forgotten - this one locks the front door after you hit start and won't unlock until it's done spinning.

All in all I have no complaints so far (other than price). It does a great job getting the clothes clean and at a fraction of the utility cost that our old top loader did. Let's keep our fingers crossed that I get at least another 10 years out of this one!

LG All-In-One Front Load Titanium Washer And Dryer Combo

           Product Description

LG WM3431HS All-In-One Front Load Titanium Washer And Dryer Combo - WM3431TT. 2.44 Cu.

Good luck!

ONLY for dwellings that have no venting or washer/dryer hookup
After some initial research into the matter, I found out that you would need a special hookup for either a washer or a dryer (you need both water input and a way to dispose of the dirty water without overflowing your pipes) and you need venting for the dryer. Good luck!

i love this machine, even though it's not perfect
i have been using my lg w/d combo for over a year now. i have a very small condo and lack of space, 220 power and venting were the deciding factors for me. i LOVE not having to take my laundry to the basement and worry about moving the laundry from the washer to the dryer. this machine has worked great for me.

i do more smaller loads now. usually 4-6 loads a week for just one person (and a cat). it rarely takes over 3 hours to wash and dry total and occasionally i choose to dry less time and line dry to finish. i never dry my jeans anyway. and yes, if i wash one towel, 2 wash clothes and a hand towel -- it is full. don't try to cram too much into this machine. it works a lot better with small loads.

i like the delay function so i can set it up in the morning and time it to be done when i get home from work.

things are more linty than a normal dryer. i got a lint roller. but my clothes come out a lot softer than the regular dryer because they're not baked to a crisp. it's a gentler dry.

it has diferent settings for "hand wash" "delicates" and "speed wash" in addition to normal etc.

i really like it. the only real annoyance i have with it, is that the door takes a really long time to unlock after a dry cycle, even after pushing the unlock button.

it is supposedly very water and energy efficient. i recommend the lg WM3431HW.

LG White Front Load Washer WM2016CW

           Product Description

LG Electronics pursues its 21st century vision of becoming a true global digital leader who can make its customers worldwide happy through its innovative digital products and services.

Front Loader watch out for the Mildew Musty Smell
NOTE:
A warning to people migrating from a top loader to a *water saving* front loader like this LG - because they like the look of front loaders like I did initially.

Let me give you an analogy:
A traditional Top loader washes your clothes like in a bath. Lot's of water being used here.

A Front loader in contrast washes your clothes like in a shower with very little water. When you run your first load you even wonder if it's getting enough water to clean the clothes as it barely gets soaked looking at the wash cycle through the window!

Problem:
With heavily soiled and stinky clothes like the polyester dri-fit fabric, the clothes do not smell good after coming out washer nor after the dryer even after putting on the fabric softener.

Solution:
Press the extra "rinse" button that gives you another rinse cycle, how much less water you save is anybodys guess.

Problem 2:
You *cannot* use the regular laundry detergent. If you do, in about 2 to 3 weeks your clothes will start smelling of mildew. Just like when you put damp clothes in your clothes drawer before they fully dry.

Reason: water trapped with residue from suds generated by the regular laundry powder does not dry and bacteria forms on the tub and seals.

Solution:
Throw away your leftover detergent for your top loader and buy "HE" type laundry detergent. The HE detergent is designed to generate less suds. They are more expensive but what can you do?

Also wipe down with a dry cloth or paper towel, the rubber door seal innards and leave the door ajar so the internal tub can dry.

Conclusion:
If the sales people at B-Buy knew their stuff and genuinely cared for me they would have warned me about this and I would have stuck to a top loader. Honestly, there is more hassle that comes with owning a Front loader than with a conventional top loader.

Now each load takes 1.5 hours with the extra rinse option. So my family of 6 takes the whole day to do the laundry. It may well be that the H20 savings is nulled out by the extre money spent on electricity.

The only thing I can say that I like it's looks. It's modern and nice to look at in a my new house.

LG engineers... fix the stink problem!!! If you don't believe me do a Google on "odor musty stink Front loader" and see al the complaints.

Read http://www.projo.com/home/content/lh_moldyfrontloaders_09-21-08_FFBH0GA_v17.4cedcde.html

LG WM3431HW 24", 2.44 Cu. Who Is It for? People who want to be able to do laundry at home but don't have an external venting source which conventional dryers require. It's great for busy people who want to start a load and return to clean clothes. The Delay Start feature allows convenient completion of laundry to fit your schedule. Homes, apartments, businesses and vacation homes where there may be space constraints. What Are The Advantages? No outside venting is required because it is ventless condensing. It runs on a standard 115V electricity and not gas. No need to wait to transfer from the washer to the dryer. What Else Should I Know? Ventless condensing dries from within the drum so the water that is extracted from the clothes drains through the drum and out the water pump. This drying process takes longer than conventional drying.

Customer Reviews

watch the capacity
I have the first version of this washer, WD-3274RHD. every thing is perfect in this -all in one.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lgwasher.blogspot.com/2009/06/lg-wm3431hw-24-244-cu-ft-washerdryer.html' title='LG WM3431HW 24", 2.44 Cu.
